The Old Newfane Inn on the Common was constructed in 1787, when Vermont was still an independent republic. Virtually unchanged for nearly 200 years, this classic and gracious country inn has welcomed the traveler. When lodging or dining with us, you are genuinely returned to that distant era of "The Grants".
For your memorable dining pleasure, special occasions or just treat your taste buds...

For the past decades, The Old Newfane Inn has been published and recommended for its high standards in classic French-Swiss Cuisine by Gourmet Magazine, Travel and Leisure, Chaine de Rotisseurs, Bon Appetit, The New York Times and Yankee Magazine Editors' Pick Of The Year.

We use only the freshest in meats, seafood and vegetables, cooked "par excellence" by chef-owner Eric Weindl. You will find our well known specialities on our regular dinner menu. We have a very large selection of imported and domestic wines, very carefully selected by the owners.

For your sleeping comfort...The Old Newfane Inn has 10 very quaint rooms, all furnished with lovely antiques. Each room has modern facilities. Children over 7 welcome.
The village of Newfane was originally 2 miles (3 km) away on Newfane Hill, but was moved lock, stock and barrel to its present site by sleigh in 1825. Among the buildings taken apart and rebuilt was the Old Newfane Inn which stands right on the green. A classic coaching stop, its long side faces the common with a rambling ancient grape vine growing the length of the building. A porch runs the length as well, with white and green chairs and rockers. Inside, a corner is devoted to the reception area where walls are hung with a mass of framed articles about the inn. In the long dining room, a heavy timbered ceiling, brick fireplace wall and pewter plates on the tables give a real feel of the 18th century Colonial era.

The bedrooms are elegant and filled with above-average antiques. The atmosphere is genteel and somewhat fomal; rather like the other other inn in the village, this is a 'special occasion' place.
